Restoring More Than Cars – OnTrack’s Racing Tracks Program Builds Skills, Confidence, and Community

For 12 weeks, OnTrack Tasmania’s Racing Tracks program has been transforming lives—alongside cars. From the rhythmic clatter of tools to the smell of metal, this NDIS-supported car restoration program in Hobart is about more than fixing vehicles. It’s about restoring confidence, purpose, and belonging.

The program runs every Monday and Tuesday, offering participants genuine experience in a real workshop setting. Attendees engage in panel beating, mechanical tasks, and safest practices—all guided by qualified mechanics, panel beaters, and support staff. With morning tea and hassle-free transport included, Racing Tracks is a fully accessible, inclusive automotive training opportunity.

“I’ve always had a passion for cars,” says Ken. “Being part of this gave me purpose again. I’ve learnt so much and never missed a session.”

More than just a mechanical workshop, Racing Tracks is built on community. Participants gain practical skills and connect through shared experiences. Pickup, drop-off, and shared breaks cultivate a sense of teamwork and belonging.

“Working with real tools and real cars gave me a sense of responsibility,” adds Terry. “I felt like I was part of a team—and I wanted to be there.”

“This was the best thing I’ve done in a long time,” says Donny. “I made mates, learned real skills, and felt valued. I’d do it all over again.”

The impact of Racing Tracks goes far beyond car restoration—it’s about building life skills, social confidence, and a sense of achievement.
